 "PEACE WITHIN YOUR WALLS": PRINCIPLES OF NATION BUILDING 


Nation building is the responsibility to make a group of people who have decided to live together as an independent entity on Earth become truly independent and positively contribute materially and morally to other nations. 


All modern nations virtually follow the Bible model of nation building, some more consciously than others. The Bible's model is the rise of the nation of Israel, which began with a given purpose, land moral guidance. 


1. PURPOSE: to be a nation through which all other nations will be blessed.


2. LAND: They were allotted the land from the Jordan to the Mediterranean sea, with set boundaries. They were not to be imperialistic, grabbing lands beyond their boundaries. Canaan alone was given to them both as a gift and a warning. The peoples on those lands had become exceedingly immoral, engaging in practices that included human sacrifice.


As a gift, they were to find self-sufficiency in the land, following prescribed landuse and industry that would keep poverty and dependence on other nations at bay.


As a warning, when the Israelites named their claim to the land in the name of God, the original occupiers could flee if they were unwilling to remain in a subordinate position. Fighting to retain ownership was last resort. Those who remained were held as having no equal rights with the Israelites, and therefore were bound to worship God alone. Beyond such restrictions, they enjoyed the same right to rest and were protected from abuse by God's law.


If the Israelites became as immoral as the peoples of Canaan that they disposed, they would equally be disposed. 


3. MORAL GUIDANCE: They were to display the moral image of God by restricting themselves within a legal-moral code broadly known as the 10 commandments. 


Israel kept this focus for a thousand years, floundering and recovering. They thrive till today.
