MATURING AS A CHILD OF GOD

Image
Main Readings: 1 John 3:1-10, Matthew 5:43-45 Repentance and faith in Jesus Christ does not only bring us forgiveness of sins from God: It also grants us the status of being children of God, and results in our nature being transformed to carry His image. We are therefore new creation with the capacity to grow in character to become like God in holiness. In the view of Apostle John who wrote the Gospel according to St. John and the three Epistles of John, if a person fails to show the signs of maturing as a child of God, he may altogether be considered a child of the devil (1 John 3:10). This sermon explores the Biblical concept of the Christian’s growth using the natural analogy of learning to RESPOND TO PARENTAL CARE, RELATING EFFECTIVELY WITH MEMBERS OF ONE’S FAMILY and extending the RIGHT COURTESIES TO THE LARGER COMMUNITY of those who are not YET members of one’s family. THE NEW BIRTH AND ITS SIGNIFICANCE The unique phenomenon that marks the Christian faith is that the...

OUR UNITY IN CHRIST - MYSTERY AND IMPLICATIONS

Image
My Ephesians God’s grand plan is to bring all things together in Christ, whether things in Heaven or on earth, whether Jews or Gentiles. It was Paul’s prayer therefore that those who were already in Christ, believers,  would appreciate that they have the greatest estate through time and eternity, and realize what great calling they have received to be early partakers with God in the unfolding Divine scheme. The revelation of God’s grand plan (mystery) was hidden from previous generations and even the “authorities in heaven” (2:5, 10), and is now being made manifest through the church. In view of the above, believers are to walk in compassion (not condemnation) towards unbelievers, working to bring them in, seeing that they were themselves unbelievers a short while ago. Also, believing Gentiles should not consider themselves different from or opposed to believing Jews, since Christ preached peace to either group (2:17), and both have received the same Holy Spirit. REMEMBERING HIS DEATH, EXPECTING HIS SECOND COMING

Ps Seth Asare Ofei Badu Remembering His Death, Expecting His Second Coming Pt. 1: Three Bear Testimony 1 John 5:8 – 10, Luke 12:35 – 48 INTRODUCTION: Water, Blood, Spirit as Witnesses on Earth John, the evangelist writes in his first letter that three things bear testimony to the identity of Jesus on earth: the water, the blood and the Spirit. Curiously, he did not restrict the testimony function of the three witnesses to Christ. Indeed the New Testament clearly teaches that these three also bear testimony to the identity of the believer. The testimony, in the case of the believer, progresses from the Blood to the Spirit. If anybody will be a true living testimony of Christ, and His worthy ambassador, he must cast himself on the agreement of the testimony of the blood, the water and the Spirit THE TESTIMONY OF THE WITNESSES Testimony of the Water – Water baptism signifies the death and burial of a person’s old self, and his resurrection unto a new life at the...

To be Born of God is All You Need

To be Born of God Looking at the dichotomy of the phasing out of all that God made to make room for all that God birthed! The focus is on the futility of being a church member without the new birth experience. Passage: John 3: 1-10 Supporting Texts: And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the LORD said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them." (Genesis 6:6, 7) Lift up your eyes to the heavens, And look on the earth beneath. For the heavens will vanish away like smoke, The earth will grow old like a garment, And those who dwell in it will die in like manner; But My salvation will be forever, And My righteousness will not be abolished. (Isaiah 51:6) For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, bu...
