FOUR SUCCESS STORIES OF DILIGENCE IN ONE Main Readings: I Kings 19: 19-20, 2 Kings 2:1-14, 2 Peter 1:5-11 The first and the last thing Elisha received from Elijah was his mantle or robe. In the first instance he was called to sacrificial study towards leadership, and the second was a release to lead. Although Elijah had initially indicated that the mantle was Elisha’s for the taking, Elisha learnt eventually that he could not have had it without diligence (careful and persistent effort) . Jesus commands immediate  diligent service in His disciples (see Matt. 11:28) and this is echoed by Peter (see 2 Pe 1:10) and Paul (see 2Tim 2:15). Ruth followed the lead of Naomi and entered into the majestic inheritance of the Royal Davidic and Messianic lineage. She could not have foreseen this, but the principles that she applied through the various seasons of her life made her stand out. Every woman has very valuable lessons to learn from Naomi.
