WHEN DAVID COMMITTED ADULTERY AND MURDER

David stole the wife of Uriah, one of his soldiers, and caused him to be killed in battle. God confronted him on it through Nathan the Prophet. David repented immediately, and God stayed his well-deserved death, but pronounced the following judgment which came to pass:

i. There would be rebellion in David's house

ii. Another person would defile David's wives in the open (to show all Israel that God doesn't condone sin)

iii. David would lose the son that resulted from the adultery

(2 Samuel 12:9-14)

Occasionally, we hear people charge God with injustice and therefore call the Scriptures into question. Usually they do so in order to set down their own alternatives. They also ignore the full context of the Scriptures and the truth that God sees more than what we see. However, concerning what see, God's justice runs without fail. The following are a more key instances of sinfulness and how God dealt with them.

WHEN ADAM DISOBEYED GOD

God banished Adam from his place of comfort and consigned his body to eventual decay. (Genesis 3)

WHEN SODOM AND GOMORRAH INSTITUTIONALIZED HOMOSEXUALITY

God decimated the entire population with fire and brimstone. (Genesis 19)

WHEN THE ISRAELITES  DEFIED GOD'S WORD IN THE WILDERNESS

He made them wander in the desert for about 40 years until the adult population that left Egypt died off. (Numbers 14)

WHEN THE PEOPLES OF CANAAN SINNED UNTIL THEIR CUP WAS FULL

God handed them over to the Israelites to dispossess them of their lands. He actually went ahead of Israel to clear them, fighting for Israel.

WHEN ISRAEL AND JUDAH PERSISTED IN VIOLATING GOD'S LAW IN CANAAN

God intermittently allowed other nations to oppress them, and eventually He let Assyria and Babylon deport Israel  and Judah respectively.

WHEN ANANIAS AND SAPPHIRA LIED

These believing couple went back on their pledge to the church and insisted they had not. They fell down and died. (Acts 5)

INSTANCES WHEN GOD APPEARS TO HAVE MITIGATED OR DEFERRED EXPECTED PUNISHMENT (THIS IS ALSO PART OF HIS JUSTICE)

1. When Adam and Eve sinned they did not die immediately.

2. When David sinned his death was stayed because he repented.

3. When Peter denied Jesus and repented afterwards, Jesus restored Him.

4. When Paul persecuted the church 'ignorantly', God forgave him when he repented, and trusted him with work like any other disciple.
