REMAIN IN THE ANOINTING

REMAIN IN THE ANOINTING
"...The anointing you received remains in you." 1 John 2:27
It is quite a relief to learn that anointing isn't found in bottles! Even in the Old Testament, when priests, kings and prophets were anointed, the oil per se was of symbolic significance (and stones and bowls were anointed as well).
The real deal was that people supposed to have been anointed were set apart and supernaturally empowered for the SERVICE of God. In some cases the anointing ran through families (as was strictly the case in the priesthood and partially in the royal lines). You wouldn't find any out and out Prophet on whom oil was poured for the purpose (very very interesting).
The extraordinary endowments of the anointed includes the ability to hear from God for the people (prophecy), supernatural strength, wisdom, insight and ability to perform miracles. These were not entitlements meant for personal enjoyment.
Implied, and sometimes clearly stated, conditions for operating in the anointing was SEPARATION or COMMITMENT to three key things:
1. OBEDIENCE to GOD's WORD
2. SERVICE to the people
3. FELLOWSHIP with anointed others
In the New Testament, under the New Covenant in the blood of Jesus Christ, anointing is by the HOLY SPIRIT's new birth and baptism. No OIL whatsoever is used or needed because it has served out it's symbolic purpose in the OLD. Now, ALL who come to Jesus Christ in faith receive this anointing and can do ALL things through Christ.
In principle, the conditions for operating in the anointing under the New Covenant remain the same as under the Old: One must endeavour to study and OBEY THE WORD of GOD in conforming to Christ's character; maintain a SERVANT's heart in attitude and work ethic; relate well with all people, and be in excellent FELLOWSHIP in the church.
Anyway, in the Bible applying oil for dressing and medicinal purposes is also called anointing. But clearly, those are not our concern here.
Our concern here is that we do not go about looking for anointing after we are born again. We have already received an anointing from the Holy One, and it REMAINS in us. We must REMAIN (and operate) in the anointing by remaining FAITHFUL to it's conditions.
