TEXT: 2 SAM 3: 33 -35; NUM. 23: 10; HEB. 9:27
2Sa 3:33 And the king sang a lament over Abner and said: "Should Abner die as a fool dies? 34 Your hands were not bound Nor your feet put into fetters; As a man falls before wicked men, so you fell." Then all the people wept over him again. 35 And when all the people came to persuade David to eat food while it was still day, David took an oath, saying, "God do so to me, and more also, if I taste bread or anything else till the sun goes down!"
Nu 23:10 "Who can count the dust of Jacob, Or number one-fourth of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, And let my end be like his!"
Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,
INTRODUCTION: Death is a necessary evil. Everybody wonders why God should give us such a friend. Everybody will go but how?

Abner means father of light
- City of refuge
1. On the west of Jordan were (1) Kadesh (Holiness), in Naphtali; (2) Shechem (part; portion), in Mount Ephraim; (3) Hebron (Friendship), in Judah. 2. On the east of Jordan were, (1) Golan (revolution), in Bashan; (2) Ramoth-Gilead (high places), in Gad; and (3) Bezer (vine branches), in Reuben.
- Joab and Abishai weren’t friends. They had sought for his life before.
2 Sam. 2:18 Joab, Abishai, and Asahel, the three sons of Zeruiah, were among David’s forces that day. Asahel could run like a deer, 19 and he began chasing Abner. He was relentless and single-minded in his pursuit. 20 When Abner looked back and saw him coming, he called out, “Is that you, Asahel?” “Yes, it is,” he replied.
APPLICATION:
The city of refuge is in Christ now.
Our sister, mother, wife or daughter chose not to die like Abner
But what about you?
