BIBLE THROWBACK

The Bible explains itself. The Lord Jesus and the writers of the New Testament books and letters were proven by the Old Testament Scripture (OT). Their hearers and readers generally knew the OT context of their statements. Here are five key samples:

 "FISHERS OF MEN" THROWBACK

““Therefore behold, the days are coming,” says the LORD, “that it shall no more be said, ‘The LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,’ but, ‘The LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north and from all the lands where He had driven them.’

For I will bring them back into their land which I gave to their fathers. “Behold, I will send for many FISHERMEN,” says the LORD, “and they shall fish them; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain and every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.”

Jeremiah 16:14-16 NKJV

“And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you FISHERS OF MEN.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him.”

Matthew 4:18-20 NKJV

“LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF" THROWBACK

“‘And if a stranger dwells with you in your land, you shall not mistreat him. The stranger who dwells among you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall LOVE HIM AS YOURSELF; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.”

Leviticus 19:33-34 NKJV

“Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR AS YOURSELF ’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.””

Matthew 22:35-40 NKJV

“THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH" THROWBACK

“Are You not from everlasting, O LORD my God, my Holy One? We shall not die. O LORD, You have appointed them for judgment; O Rock, You have marked them for correction. You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, And cannot look on wickedness. Why do You look on those who deal treacherously, And hold Your tongue when the wicked devours A person more righteous than he?”

“Then the LORD answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.

“Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the JUST SHALL LIVE BY HIS FAITH".

Habakkuk 1:12-13; 2:2, 4 NKJV

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.””

Romans 1:16-17 NKJV

"EXPEL THE IMMORAL BROTHER" THROWBACK

“Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: ‘On the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household.

Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats. Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight.

‘So this day shall be to you a memorial; and you shall keep it as a feast to the LORD throughout your generations. You shall keep it as a feast by an everlasting ordinance. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the first day YOU SHALL REMOVE LEAVEN FROM YOUR HOUSES. For whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel.”

Exodus 12:3, 5-6, 14-15 NKJV

“In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed CHRIST, OUR PASSOVER, WAS SACRIFICED FOR US. Therefore let us keep the feast, NOT WITH OLD LEAVEN, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people.

But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner— not even to eat with such a person. For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? But those who are outside God judges. Therefore “PUT AWAY FROM YOURSELVES THE EVIL PERSON.””

I Corinthians 5:4-9, 11-13 NKJV

"CONFESS WITH YOUR MOUTH" THROWBACK

““For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off. It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend into heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ But THE WORD IS VERY NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART, that you may do it.”

Deuteronomy 30:11-14 NKJV

“For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, “The man who does those things shall live by them.” But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down from above ) or, “ ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? “THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Romans 10:4-10 NKJV
